Lesson 2
God is our Father

Lesson 2

God is our Father

God our Father is the Creator of everything that is good. Through creation we learn more about God. And as we learn more about God we learn that God is Almighty. God is Almighty because God has the power to do everything that is good. God loves us very much and that is why He created us. Father, Creator and Almighty are words that we use to tell about God. Our Church believes in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth.

Jesus taught us to call God our Father. In the Bible, He told His friends, “Your Father knows what you need before you ask.” (read Matthew 6:8)

Jesus also taught His friends how to pray because God the Father loves us and cares about us. He told his friends, “You should pray like this: Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.” (read Matthew 6:9 – 13)

We call this prayer the Our Father. We say this prayer during Mass in our church.
