Lectors

Lectors Training

1) Lectors will observe Dress Code and must be presentable. Men will wear neat shirt, trousers and shoes; coat and tie highly preferred but not required. Women will wear respectable dress, or shirt and slacks, and respectable shoes; no short skirts or low neckline. Absolutely no t-shirts, shorts or denims.

2) Lectors will come prepared for Mass and should have practiced their assigned readings (preferably at home).

3) At the designated time, Lectors will approach the ambo from the side steps. If they cross the center aisle, they will reverently bow to the altar.

4) Unless absolutely necessary, Lectors will not adjust the height of the microphone.

5) Lectors begin with: “A Reading from …..”

6) Lectors end with: “The Word of the Lord.”

7) Lectors for First Reading will turn the page to the Second Reading before leaving the ambo.

8) Lectors for the Second Reading will close the book and place it under the shelf before leaving the ambo.

9) Lectors leave the ambo and use the side steps to go back to their seat. If they cross the center aisle, they will reverently bow to the altar.
