Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion Training

  1. Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion will observe Dress Code and must be presentable. Men will wear neat shirt, trousers and shoes; coat and tie highly preferred but not required. Women will wear respectable dress, or shirt and slacks, and respectable shoes; no short skirts or low neckline. Absolutely no t-shirts, shorts or denims.
  2. Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion approach the altar when choir begins to sing “Lamb of God.”
  3. They stand at the choir side and wait until the priest consumes the host.
  4. They come up on the platform at the choir side and wait until the priest gives them Holy Communion.
  5. They follow behind the priest to their respective positions.
  6. They will stand in their respective positions and distribute Holy Communion.
    1. When the Precious Blood is completely consumed, the Ministers of the Cup will cover the cup with the purificator, signifying to the people that the cup is empty.
    2. All Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion will remain in their respective positions until all communicants have been given Holy Communion.
  7. After all communicants have received Holy Communion, the Ministers of Holy Communion will follow the priest and go up to the altar.
  8. If there is any Precious Blood remaining in the cups, the Ministers of the Cup will stand on the side of the altar and consume it completely while facing the altar.
  9. The Ministers of the Eucharist will place the ciborium and the cups on the altar.
    1. The Ministers of the cup will leave the cups uncovered on the altar.
  10. The Ministers of the Eucharist will go back to their seats. If they cross the center aisle, they will reverently bow to the altar.
