Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion Training
- Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion will observe Dress Code and must be presentable. Men will wear neat shirt, trousers and shoes; coat and tie highly preferred but not required. Women will wear respectable dress, or shirt and slacks, and respectable shoes; no short skirts or low neckline. Absolutely no t-shirts, shorts or denims.
- Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion approach the altar when choir begins to sing “Lamb of God.”
- They stand at the choir side and wait until the priest consumes the host.
- They come up on the platform at the choir side and wait until the priest gives them Holy Communion.
- They follow behind the priest to their respective positions.
- They will stand in their respective positions and distribute Holy Communion.
- When the Precious Blood is completely consumed, the Ministers of the Cup will cover the cup with the purificator, signifying to the people that the cup is empty.
- All Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion will remain in their respective positions until all communicants have been given Holy Communion.
- After all communicants have received Holy Communion, the Ministers of Holy Communion will follow the priest and go up to the altar.
- If there is any Precious Blood remaining in the cups, the Ministers of the Cup will stand on the side of the altar and consume it completely while facing the altar.
- The Ministers of the Eucharist will place the ciborium and the cups on the altar.
- The Ministers of the cup will leave the cups uncovered on the altar.
- The Ministers of the Eucharist will go back to their seats. If they cross the center aisle, they will reverently bow to the altar.
