Be Persistent in Prayer!

By using the parable of the widow and the dishonest judge, Jesus tells us about the benefits of being persistent in prayer. If the widow was able to get the dishonest judge to render a just decision for her against her adversary because of her persistence, how much more will God listen to His chosen ones who call out to Him day and night? Jesus assures us that God will see to it that justice is done for them speedily.

The primary reason why we must pray is because we believe in God, and the ordinary means to communicate with God is through prayer. God already knows our every thought, needs and feelings, and therefore we pray not because God needs to hear from us, but because we need God – His presence, His guidance, His mercy and His love. We need to express our praise and thanks, as well as our needs, our joys and successes, our sorrows and failures, and our deepest and innermost feelings to the God who created us, the God who redeemed us, and the God who sanctifies us.

When we pray, we must be persistent not only in asking for things that we need, but also in asking for the grace to know God better, to have a closer relationship with Him, to overcome temptation and the sin that is most prevalent in our lives. When the Son of Man comes, will he still find faith on earth? By being persistent in prayer, we can remain watchful and persevere in the faith even though people around us may fall away.
