Today, we will have the Blessing of the Throats after Mass in commemoration of the Feast of St. Blaise, which was yesterday, February 3. The priest, deacon or lay minister imparts the blessing of the throat by placing two crossed candles, which are tied together by a red string, on a person’s throat and saying the words: “Through the intercession of St. Blaise, Bishop and Martyr, may God deliver you from sickness of the throat and from every other evil.”
Starting in February, we will have Eucharistic Adoration in the chapel every Sunday at 9:30 am before the 10:30 am Chinese Mass. Not only will this be a great opportunity to receive special graces, it is also a great way to prepare for Mass. Jesus is inviting you: “Come and spend an hour with me!”

Never be afraid of loving the Blessed Virgin too much.
You can never love her more than Jesus did.

5th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Today’s Gospel tells us how Jesus re-energized Himself: rising very early before dawn, He went off to a deserted place to pray. Jesus prayed in order to spend some time with God the Father, and to be renewed and re-energized by the love that they share with each other.
There are many ways for us to pray, but if we want to listen to God speaking to us in our hearts, then we must learn to quiet down our minds and our hearts. There are three ways to do this; the first way is through meditation. Meditation has to do with praying with our minds; for example, we can think about a particular Gospel passage and imagine Jesus in the Gospel scene. Meditation is simply taking an idea and reflecting about it in our minds. The second way is through conversation. Here, we talk to Jesus in our hearts; that is why this method of prayer is also called praying with our hearts. There are so many things we can talk to Jesus about: our experiences and relationships, our needs and desires, our joys and sorrows, etc. The third way is through contemplation. Here, we don’t think about anything or say anything; we simply rest silently in Jesus’ presence. That is why this method of prayer is called praying with our souls. We simply open up to God’s grace and let it work within us.
