Twelth Sunday in Ordinary Time (Matthew 10:26-33)
In today’s Gospel, Jesus bade the Twelve not to be afraid to preach the Gospel; He said: “Do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul.” There are consequences for preaching the Gospel, especially in a hostile environment. In some countries, the consequences of being a Christian varies from the loss of property and a decent livelihood, to losing their life. But despite the dangers of being a disciple of Christ, Jesus reminds His disciples that if their Father in Heaven looks after small creatures like sparrows, then He would surely look after them. Jesus tells His disciples that they are definitely worth more than sparrows, and therefore they can count on God’s loving care. But when the time comes that they should lose their life for preaching the truth of the Gospel, then they can be assured that they will not be alone, for God knows about it and God will be there with them.
In the Second Reading, St. Paul tells us that sin and death entered the world because of Adam’s compromise with evil. As a result, we see the consequences in all the lies and deceits of self-divinizing humanity. But despite the presence of evil in the world which has caused many to die, St. Paul assures us that the grace of God has touched many more. The grace of God and the gracious gift of the one man Jesus Christ is the source of courage in difficult circumstances.

兩周宗教信仰自由的祈禱 Fortnight for Freedom
每年全国各主教府都会安排一个特别的活动以強調维护宗教信仰的自由。The Fortnight for Freedom
Each year, dioceses around the country arrange special events to highlight the importance of defending religious freedom. The Fortnight for Freedom is from June 21 (the vigil of the Feasts of St. John Fisher and St. Thomas More) to July 4, Independence Day. During these 14 days, we will recite the Prayer for the Protection of Religious Liberty after Mass. All are encouraged to pray and offer sacrifices for the intention of obtaining God’s protection for religious liberty throughout the world.
Evangelization using the “One-Brings-One” Method
The hardest part of evangelization is attracting non-Catholics to come to an RCIA course. The Chinese Lay Missionaries Foundation has one lay evangelist serving in Taichung who has been very successful in attracting them: she had 30, then 40, then 50, then 59 baptisms over the last four years. This success was due to the fact that 70% of her catechumens were attracted by Catholics who belong to a prayer community which uses the “One-Brings-One” method. In the last nine months, Fr. Lou Aldrich worked with lay evangelists in Tainan and has formed four of these groups. On July 22-23, Fr. Aldrich will explain the successful method used in Taichung and he will share his experience in using this method in Tainan.
